Leisure Industry Week 2013 brought the usual busy build-up, particularly as it coincided with the launch of our book Stick Around, and we had back-to-back meetings for a couple of days in Birmingham.
There were some big changes – a new location in the NEC in hall 4, which was a little cosier that the usual large space of Hall 18. This seemed to create more of a buzz, and the exhibition floor felt busier than the last few years,
which was great. It was good to see some of the seminar sessions (on retention in particular) full with standing room only, but a shame that the presenters were sometimes competing with the background noise or PA systems from nearby stands.
Exciting innovations on the show floor included payasUgym’s new class booking system – this will surely help clubs to extend their reach beyond the traditional day/month pass and fill up their class timetable too.
GYMetrix is also gaining some good traction since winning the Flame Spark of Innovation award, and look like a good option for clubs who want to relieve equipment pressure at busy times, and improve member satisfaction.
And StepSuccess caught our eye with their Joggle Pebble device for monitoring and motivating people to move more.
The BigWave Media party at Shimla Pinks was a great success; thanks and well done to them for their excellent organisation skills once again!
And if you think it’s all over for another year, then you’ve missed a trick… the hard work and follow-up starts now!
