We’ve been to a lot of industry events, conferences, and conventions over the last 9 years, but ActiveLab Live! last week at The Crystal in East London was by far the best. It was innovative, engaging, and motivating. Delegates, innovators and speakers were all networking throughout the day, and at the post-event drinks.
Kate Russell (BBC Click) hosted the day, and was a great facilitator, bringing a good balance to the presentations, keynotes and pitches. There was a rousing call to arms from Steve Ward (ukactive) which set up the day really well. The star of the morning was Jonathan MacDonald (Thought Expansion Network) who squeezed so many motivational, challenging, disruptive ideas, I’ve had to review the slides three times since. “Pitstops for winning” and a classic org chart from the Marketoonist were personal highlights.
A fine networking lunch also gave delegates time to meet the innovators, 12 startup companies looking for investment to help make more people more active more often. Later in the afternoon, the 12 each made a 60 second pitch to the packed auditorium, and were quizzed by the ukactive, TechCityUK and AXA PPP panel, before the audience voted for their favourite. The very worthy winners were iMoves, a digital teaching platform to help get schools active.
The ukactive event app brought another angle to the proceedings, helping push out comments to social media, and enabling delegates to connect, vote, and compete for kudos points. Well done to Wayne Heath of ClubRight for amassing the most points on the day!
Well done to all the innovators, presenters, partners, and ukactive staff for making this a day to remember. We look forward to the following the progress of ActiveLab, and to the next Live event.
