LetsMove - what's next? Ideas for your April Challenge

LetsMove 2019 has been the most successful Technogym Global Challenge to date. Keep up the momentum at your club with one of these follow-up challenges:

Quick Option:

Easter Burnie

Type – Calories burned
Winners – Everyone who…

This is a quick challenge that you can run to boost your member’s activity over the Easter period. It’s a great follow-up to LetsMove as anyone can enter and everyone should be able to complete it.

Detail

We’ve based the calories on one Cadbury’s Buttons egg (500 kCal) per day, which is 5,000 calories over 10 days. Half an hour of daily exercise should cover this for an average member – so it’s not very challenging, but that’s the idea!  Feel free to adjust this, but remember this challenge is to motivate members that need motivating, not just have a lot of elite athletes winning the challenge.

Prizes

The obvious prize for anyone who completes is a small chocolate egg, or creme egg. You could also do a random draw on everyone who completes for a big posh egg, which is good for publicity and social. Beware of the obvious health messages – if you can think of a healthy alternative Easter prize, please let us know. (no free month memberships please)

Set-up

Type: Calories Burned
The challenge will be won by: Everyone who burns 5,000* calories
Start Date: Saturday 13 April
Duration (days): 10*
Prizes: see above – Cadbury Creme Egg / Prize Draw for Thorntons…

Challenge Name: Easter Burnie Calorie Challenge 2019
Individual / Team: Individual
Participants: All
Include results of: activity in this club on kit & app, GPS & activity trackers

Success tracking

  • # participants vs # completions as a percentage (higher = better)
  • Best instructor / staff member on sign-ups and calories
  • Fastest member to 5,000 kCal, Highest total kCal at close
  • Number of social posts with #EasterBurnie

Longer Option:

Marathon

Type – Distance run
Winners – Everyone who…

This is a longer challenge that runs (!) alongside the London Marathon in April 2019. It changes focus from LetsMove by drilling down into running alone, but with adaptations can include all members. It is a long duration challenge though (like LetsMove), so only consider this if you don’t want to do the quick calorie challenge above.

Detail

The headline is to run a marathon by the London Marathon, but 26 miles (42km) is a lot for many members, even over 20+ days. So, we often run a parallel ‘Half-marathon’ (21km) challenge over the same period. Members can sign-up for either (or both!), the idea being that they focus on their running cardio exercise for the duration of the challenge. When you’re updating a member’s programme, you can programme more treadmill for these members.

Prizes

T-shirts are great for this one – everyone who completes. Or for a smaller budget, a sports/fitness voucher as a prize draw for everyone who competes. Why not get a local sports shop to sponsor the prize, and offer a discount to anyone who completes?
