How to adapt your fitness challenges during Coronavirus

A lot of club-based fitness challenges aren’t feasible right now. Whether you’re in a country on lock-down, or your club is still open but practicing social distancing, you can’t reward members for attending the club or encourage them to visit more if they don’t want to.

Here’s a handful of challenges that you can still set your members. Some will depend on your business model, systems and software. But you can adapt a lot of these, and as always, simplest is best.

  1. Daily steps/MOVEs/MEPs/Calories target. Get your members to track their daily movement and congratulate or reward them if they hit 5 days out of 7 each week.
  2. Distance run / cycled / walked. Members can record via app / upload / self-report their daily distance and get a prize or High5 when they hit an agreed target.
  3. Most classes/workouts – in-club, online or at home. Show you’re tracking their online attendance or number of workouts completed by giving members a badge or shout-out when they’ve completed 5 or 10 workouts, etc.
  4. Best exercise selfies. Encourage members to take photos or videos of themselves exercising on your social channels. Prizes for the best photo each week. This will help maintain your community and keep people engaged on your social feeds, even if they're not posting themselves.
  5. Instructor of the week… look at online class feedback, or a vote for remote support, or simply number of one-to-one PT sessions.
If you’re running other challenges, please share them with us in the comments below.
